It's a decade since we first started Children’s Media Lives for Ofcom and in this year's report we reflect on how much things have changed. We see that children are spending hours online each day, much of it on social media – though they’re generally watching, scrolling and skimming rather than interacting. Their attention is being caught by hyper-stimulating videos that are loud, bright, dramatic and dizzying. If their interest starts to fade, they’re encouraged to wait for the ‘big reveal’ or they choose to watch the video at twice the speed so they can ‘get to’ the next one more quickly.
